Infections stop cardiac surgeries at California Hospital

Saint Agnes Medical Center of Fresno, CA, has put a halt on all open-heart surgeries as investigators from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) look into a series of postoperative infections among patients of the hospital, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The CDPH has recommended that the hospital discontinue cardiac surgeries during the investigation, which occurred in the first three months of 2008.
