Accreditor's application for deeming authority reaches next stage
Accreditation Connection, March 28, 2008
DNV Healthcare's bid to become the first new accreditation organization for hospitals in the U.S. in over 40 years has taken another step forward. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that DNV's application for deeming authority has been accepted, and began the formal 210-day review period March 12.
The company would join only two other organizations, The Joint Commission and the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), as organizations with deeming authority from CMS to accredit hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
The application from DNV has been "accepted as complete" and will begin a formal review period beginning March 12, 2008. A 30-day public comment period will begin in late April. This comment period will be announced via the Federal Register.
