Joint Commission to improve office-based surgery safety in NY

The New York State Department of Public Health has designated The Joint Commission as an accrediting body for New York physician practices who perform office-based surgery.
In 2007, New York legislators enacted a requirement for office-based surgeries to be performed in a setting that meets and maintains accreditation through a nationally recognized accreditation organization. This legislation requires office-based surgical practices to be accredited by July 14, 2009.
