CMS seeks to expand coverage for home testing of blood clotting tendencies
Accreditation Connection, January 3, 2008
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed to extend coverage for home testing of blood clotting tendencies for certain Medicare beneficiaries.
According to the proposal, CMS looks to expand coverage to cover beneficiaries who use warfarin (an anticoagulant) for both chronic atrial fibrillation and venous thrombosis. The current policy only provides home test coverage for patients with mechanical heart valves who are using warfarin.
An official statement by CMS can be found here.
