Report: States have improved disaster preparedness

Accreditation Connection, December 19, 2007

The Trust for America's Health has released a report, Ready or Not? Protecting the Public's Health from Diseases, Disasters, and Bioterrorism, indicating that on a 10 point scale, 35 states scored a 10 or higher on health emergency preparedness compared to only 14 states last year.

Although the report notes that emergency preparedness has increased significantly over the past year, much remains to be improved, including a lack of liability protection for healthcare volunteers during a disaster, and a lack of antiviral medications in seven states.
