Cash-strapped hospital faces loss of accreditation

Joint Commission inspectors arrived the same day the board of directors for Atlanta-based Grady Health System voted to restructure the management of the hospital in favor of a private, nonprofit organization to run the cash-strapped facility. The results of the survey threaten the hospital's accreditation status, though details regarding opportunities for improvement were not made public.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Grady Health System has been consistently under-funded, projecting a record deficit in 2007. Quality of patient care has not been an issue previously, though the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce has identified millions of dollars in needed capital improvements at the facility.
